Apple Picking Day

Apple Picking 2013
This weekend was Luc's weekend off, so we planned our apple picking/applesauce making day accordingly! The tail end of last week, and all of Saturday, turned out to be chilly, windy, and even rainy. But we lucked out having picked Sunday morning/afternoon as our day to go to the orchard. It was a beautiful sunny, crisp fall day- perfect for the occasion! On our ride back home it began to cloud up, and eventually rained again- what luck!

Being that apple picking followed by making applesauce and other homemade apple goods has been a family tradition since I can remember, I personally look forward to the day every year. But it is SO much more exciting with the kids! This was Ian's 1st "real" time apple picking, as last year he came with but was carried around in his baby car seat. This year he was on the move and loving it! Adelyn was excited because a few weeks ago during "Granny Day" she and Granny made a special frame craft to fill with a pic from the highly anticipated apple day- she's literally been talking for weeks about going apple picking so she could put a picture in her frame!

(now we HAVE the pics, just need to print one!)
We packed up some lunches for the kids to eat on the car ride over (and coffee for ourselves ;) ), and made the trek to the orchard!
Throwing some passes while Mommy packs up lunch....
...A took a couple swings, too!
Riding in the car with Joshy, Auntie, & Grampy...
...meanwhile Ian put on a show for Granny ( in the back seat with him)
while eating his lunch in our car.

Made it to the orchard!
Ian was AMAZED at riding the tractor!
Everybody wanted to be Grampy's helper because he is the tallest!
(and, really, just because they LOVE their Grampy!)

A GENTLY putting the apples in the bag

Ian still continues to love the outdoors,
but I think he mostly liked being on the loose!

Of course what would a day picking apples be without giving them a try?!...
Yum!
A's 1st time eating an apple whole...and eating the whole apple, too!
Ian had a taste, too :)
I was behind the camera most of the morning, but I
took a break to get a pic with my babes!
After the picking was done (we filled up 5 bags!), Ian was more than ready for his nap, so Luc, Ian, and I started for home to get him in bed.
We weren't even out of the orchard's parking lot
before Ian crashed!
Since we drove 2 cars, we let Adelyn stay with the rest of the crew so she could play with Josh at the "apple park" as she called it. :) My parents took A back to their house and she got to take a nap in "Joshy's bed" (his old room from when he lived there, but really it's the "kid's room" now...but for her it is much more special to do something when it is Joshy's :)

After naps it was time to continue our night at Granny's with our tradition of making homemade applesauce! This year A even got her own "knife!"
Busy at work!
She helped a long time, but afterwards I
guess making shapes with the apples was much more fun!
Daddy had his own little assembly line within
our assembly line!
Meanwhile Ian kept himself busy by rearranging just
about every one of Granny's cupboards & drawers! :)
...and by playing the "recorder" Granny made
(MUCH more audibly-friendly to the rest of our ears than the real recorder!)
Ian said "Pa" for the first time! I think we know who his best friend is!
Snuggles for Grampy!
While the applesauce cooked we had some dinner, and enjoyed the apple crisp Auntie made! We had such a fun, and busy, day...can't believe we will have another little one apple picking with us next year! :)
