April 28: HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN!

Our Sweet Pea turned a year old at the end of April. He has been nothing short of a joy & blessing in our lives! I have more than enjoyed my little snuggle bug, his silly giggles, and of course those dimples! He is already making efforts to walk, although he's been taking the same lazy approach as he did when learning to sit up and crawl: "Hey, if I know Mom & Dad can carry me, why bother?!" He has always been so strong, even from the time he was in my tummy- I always swore he was going to hatch his way out with all the kicking! That said, just as in crawling and sitting up, I know he has the strength to walk- he is just a lazy little stinker!

Some fun facts & favorite things about Ian:
Although he is not yet saying words, Ian makes a lot of noises and grunts- he certainly seems to know what he wants! Ian's favorite story continues to be "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," and we read it 2-3 times per day (usually before naps and bedtime!) Which brings me to say that Ian still naps twice a day (10am and 2pm), and is a 730pm ON THE DOT bed-timer! He usually gets pretty fussy around quarter after 7, he is very consistent :)

It has been exceptionally fun and eye opening to see the vast difference between not only Adelyn & Ian at any particular age, but also the difference between a baby girl & a baby boy! Adelyn was always rather tame, sat for long periods of time while reading or playing with a toy, and never thought twice about pulling down any of Mommy's decorations (rock waterfall, candle stands, etc.) Ian, on the other hand, is nothing but the opposite! He is such a wild man- always climbing and on the move! It has been especially hard to spend time on learning colors, shapes, animal sounds, ABC's, etc., because he just won't sit still long enough! One of the things he enjoys is bringing me books to read to him. But by the time I've opened the cover he is already headed back to the shelf to grab another! I've also had to put many decorations away, or at least move them to higher ground! I do believe he understands "no," but he seems to think that command only eggs him on to continue to do whatever it is the "no" is telling him not to do!

Now that we have two, it's also been hard for both Luc & I to spend with him even a fraction of the one-on-one time we spent with Adelyn! But we do make a good effort at extra snuggles and kisses when we can, especially during bedtime. Luc always gives the kids a bath, then Mama gets to do bottle and story time :) His favorite way to fall asleep, after his bottle of course, is with his nukky & bear- just like big sister used to!

Ian didn't have his 12 month check up until he was actually 13 months old, but I figured since this post is all about him and recognizing the mark of him turning 1 I'd add the stats anyhow!

Weight: 22lbs, 14 oz (42%)
Length: 31 1/2" (86%)
Head: 18 1/4" (43%)

Ian also received his 1st fluoride treatment for his 3 (almost 4) teeth, as well as 3 shots. He was such a trooper! I always love to see the difference in kids (I also hadn't yet begun this blog so I'm kind of catching up with posting from the days of pre-blogging!), so here's the vastly contrasting stats of Adelyn's 12 month check up:

Weight: 17lbs, 8oz (5%)
Length: 29 1/4" (50%)
Head: 18" (75%)

At his age, Adelyn still not only didn't have teeth but also didn't even show signs of teething!

Back to the birthday boy...here is how we all celebrated his 1st birthday:

Daddy & big sister making pancakes for Ian's special day!
(Daddy had to leave for work after lunch, so we soaked up all the time we had with him!)
Patiently awaiting breakfast
(My phone hadn't yet be replaced and the sound on these videos turned out extra muffled...so crank it up, sorry!)...
VIDEO: "Uh Oh"

"Is that cake really for me?!"

"Hmm, let's see..."
"...not too sure about this!"
Playing with cake
"...on second thought, YUMMY!"
"CHEESE I'M ONE!"
Ian's present- we're making sure he's all-star ready! :)
Big sister taking a swing, too!
Always so busy!
Birthday boy!
"I love my brother!...sometimes..."
All tuckered out after that cake & play time!
A close up of that sweet face.
After naps we visited Grandma & Grandpa Tran so they could see the birthday boy, too!
Playing "peek" with Grandma Tran
Sitting on Grandpa Tran's lap!
Afterwards, we headed to my family's house for birthday dinner!
"A balloon all for me?!"
His favorite play spot: on the kitchen floor.
He has to be in the midst of all the action!
Helping Grampy move in Granny's bike before it rained!
Happy birthday to my boy!
Even though he didn't use it (he generally throws plate-ware on the floor!),
Granny still made sure to set out the special red plate!
Playing "peek" with Grampy at dinner
B-day peek w/ Grampy
"I've got this!"
"See, I really COULD walk!"
Smooches from Granny!
Granny's all ready to sing!
Big cousin & big sister, too!
Awaiting yet more cake!

"It's my party & I'll be naked if I want to! (And
take a leak on Granny's front door!")
NOTE: I swear I did not know what he was doing until after when I found the mess!! LOL.
Mama's greeter after loading up the car!
What an exhausting, yet fun, birthday! :)
Happy birthday, Ian Benjamin.
Mama & Daddy love you to the moon and back!
