| This is happening! |
After many weeks, months, and much thought and preparation, we finally put our home on the market at the end of July. We are ready for bigger and better things! Since I'm flashing back, I can say that, over a month later, we've had quite the roller coaster ride!
After being on the market for not even 6 hours, we had 3 showings booked! Many more showings and 5 days later, we accepted an offer for list price and couldn't have been more excited. The inspection of our house happened the following week, and inspection went well, no negative feedback! After that point buyers have 10 days to "back out" if something goes wrong with inspection, or something is alarming with the documents we provide (and pay for) from our association. A few days after inspections, we were notified that, suddenly, the buyer felt that he "didn't want to live in an association"....hello?! You made an offer on a TOWN HOME! As you can imagine, many things were going through our minds aside from disappointment and frustration...but we were back on the market the following day (mid-week).
By that same weekend, after many more showings, we again received, and accepted, an offer. Whew! We had another inspection, and the only thing that they asked to be replaced was 3 of our window screens (which Luc did all himself for under $25!) We ordered the home owners documents, and things were well on their way...until a few days after the inspection when the buyer asked us to replace our furnace, or dock off an extra $1500. Not happening, and not happening. He assured us that even though we refused, he would still take the house.
It was at that point that, after seeing many houses ourselves, Luc and I made an offer on our first home together! We were so excited, not to mention the home happened to be 2 streets down from our dear friends who had recently moved from across the street from us (that was on a Saturday)! After going back-and-forth on offers and counter-offers but not hearing anything back from the sellers by Sunday evening, I (Luc was working) looked at one more home that happened to be on the same street. I loved it even more! We had completely forgotten, and overlooked, that we had actually seen (in person) that home before. SO, thinking this was a Divine sign, we cancelled the offer on the first home, and made an offer on this one that same evening (Sunday). The next day, we went back-and-forth a couple times with the sellers before we all met at a number that was pleasing to all parties.
Tuesday, August 20, Luc signed all remaining paperwork and we were just waiting for confirmation of the same from the sellers. Luc NEVER calls me, especially during the work day. So when I received a call from him that afternoon I knew it must be because he was calling with good news that we got the house!....He was, in fact, calling to regretfully inform me that the buyer of OUR home (this is the 2nd buyer, mind you!) had backed out!! Apparently he felt as though he could get more space for his money (even though he wanted to stay in the same price-range as our home...good luck!)
Devastated, we were forced to cancel our offer on "our home." We were back on the market the following day (August 21), and as of today, September 8th, still are. For the 3rd time! The first week we had 13 showings- but no bites. All the feedback we receive is the same, "lovely home, but not for us"- so frustrating! And to make matters even more devastating, after being in the neighborhood, we did a drive-by of "our home." Luc was driving, and as soon as he turned down the street I knew he just wanted to look at "our home." But as we got closer and closer, I noticed an extra sign hanging down from the "for sale" sign: SOLD. :(
All that said, this brings us up to date with our house drama...will an honest person who wants to buy our home please stand up?!
oh Kaity :( so sorry your house is sold :( You will like another one better later, I am sure, but still frustrating :(
